| Like a lot of people, Red Shirt Press has caught the Trek fever (again) after seeing the new Star Trek movie. So we are going to attempt to publish a new Kirk/Spock zine called Uncross the Stars for next year's ShoreLeave.
In June 2004, we created Red Shirt Press in the hopes of putting out a K/S zine, but we couldn't get enough submissions, so the zine was put on hold. Now with the release of Star Trek XI, there has been a renewal in the fandom (and in RSP) and we are hoping that now is the time to publish a K/S zine. As you can see from our icon, classic and reboot K/S is the theme.

ZINES TAKE UP TO EIGHT WEEKS TO BE MAILED | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| Unfortunately due to a lack of submissions at this time, Red Shirt Press' Professionals zine has been put on hold. We still have some amazing Lorraine Brevig artwork that we'd like to use for a Pros zine, but with the current atmosphere in fandom that is leaning more towards publishing on the 'Net than to traditional paper zines, at this point we are not hopeful that a zine will be published anytime in the near future.
Red Shirt Press loves zines and the feel of them in your hands, but we do understand that times in fandom are changing and with more and more zine publishers having trouble getting submissions, we are starting to think it may be time to hang up our publishing hats, so to speak.
At the moment, we are not planning on closing down, just contemplating our options. In fact, we have been asked to re-release some of our other zines that were out-of-print (Stargate Atlantis' Military Intelligence and a Smallville zine), so those are projects we are considering at this time. If we do decide to re-issue them, please check back here for information on how to purchase them.

| Red Shirt Press is happy to announce that it is seeking contributors for its new Professionals zine (title to be determined), which will feature stories and art centered around the Bodie/Doyle pairing. The zine will be published in July 2009 in time for the Close Quarters convention. At Red Shirt Press, we are experienced zine publishers and long-time fans. (Our most recent publication was the award-winning Stargate Atlantis zine, "Military/Intelligence.") We are very excited about publishing in The Professionals fandom, which we've long enjoyed and which has always featured some of the best writers and artists in fandom. These are the potential submissions guideline we anticipate for the zine:
- A story of between 11 and 60 pages in length guarantees you a free tribber's copy of the zine; of course, if you'd like to write more than 60 pages, you are more than welcome to do so!
- Two full-page poems guarantee you a free tribber's copy of the zine
- One full-page (8.5" x 11") piece of art (color or black & white) will get you a free tribber's copy of the zine - All stories must be Bodie/Doyle in nature (no threesomes, foursomes, etc.). While there can be mention of past or current relationships involving either/both character(s), the main focus of the story MUST be Bodie/Doyle.
- We welcome all genres of slash stories: first time, established relationship, A/Us, crossovers, etc. - Stories must be submitted in Word .DOC format in the form of an e-mail attachment to: redshirtpress@gmail.com
- Stories should be submitted in Times New Roman 12-point font - Stories will be edited -- gently and respectfully -- by Red Shirt Press, but you (the author) will be a part of the editing process at every turn. The final edits will be submitted to you for approval before they are put in the zine. (We will have a UK native on board for Brit-picking as well.) - Stories and art must not have been previously published in another format (print or online zine, mailing list, Internet, LiveJournal, etc.) We are looking for new stories and art. Stories and art will then be used by Red Shirt Press in the zine for a period of one year after the publication date; at the end of that year, they will be released back to the author/artist. Until then, we ask that the story/art not be distributed elsewhere. - Stories and artwork should be turned in by January 10, 2009 to be considered for the zine.
Lorraine Brevig has graciously agreed to allow her wonderful Bodie/Doyle B&W drawing entitled "Interrupted" to serve as the zine cover (see below). The zine will include additional art by the talented Ms. Brevig, and we are actively seeking art from some of the other amazing artists in this fandom to complete the zine. If you are interested in contributing a story, poem or artwork to this zine and are willing to work within these guidelines, please e-mail us at: redshirtpress@gmail.com. We're looking forward to publishing in Pros, and would love to have you in the zine! Thank you, Red Shirt Press

| Due to circumstances beyond our control, Red Shirt Press' J2 zine, Between Friendship and Forever has been put on hold. At this point, we are not sure if the project will continue in the future, but if it does, we will post here.
For the wonderful authors and artist who contributed to the zine, we thank you for your hard work and are very sorry this project isn't going forward - at this point. So, your art and stories are released.
indusnm, we are sorry you will not be getting a free copy of the zine for coming up with the wonderful title. However, we'd like to offer you a free copy of any Red Shirt Press zine, past or future, to compensate you. E-mail me (T'Pri) privately for details.
Thank you,
T'Pri & Sue Red Shirt Press | comments: 1 comment or Leave a comment |
| The beautiful and talented, taliosi_x had completed the amazing cover for our J-squared zine, Between Friendship and Forever.
Personally, I love it. What do you think? (Under cut, IMO it is work safe. I'd say a PG rating).
( Pretty boys )
The zine is still looking for submissions. So if Osi's cover inspires you, please send us a story. You have until April 20, 2008 to submit a story. See guidelines HERE.
This artwork is copyrighted by Red Shirt Press and Osianna, 2008. Please do not distribute, copy or use for personal or professional use under any circumstances. | comments: 8 comments or Leave a comment |
| A few authors have asked for extensions and we are granting them, so we are also extending the submission date for the J-squared zine to April 20, 2008. If you are still thinking about sending a story into the zine, there is still time to do so.
Thank you! | comments: Leave a comment |
| Ater much consideration, my publishing partner and I have decided on the tile for the zine. We thank everyone who participated in the contest. It was a hard decision to just pick one title.
The title for our J-squared zine is: Between friendship and forever.
And indusnm is the winner of the contest. When the zine finally is published, you will get a free copy of the zine. | comments: Leave a comment |
| This is the place to submit your Jared/Jensen zine title proposals. If we pick your title for our J-squared zine, you will get a free tribber's copy of the zine when it is published in May 2008.
Nominate as many titles as you want.
Good luck to all!
Deadline for title submissions: November 1, 2007. | comments: 19 comments or Leave a comment |
| Red Shirt Press is happy to announce that it is looking for contributors for its new zine, Between Friendship and Forever, which will feature stories and art from the Jensen/Jared RPF fandom. The zine will be published in July 2008 for ShoreLeave Convention.
To our knowledge, there has never been a Jared/Jensen zine before and so we are very excited about the possibility of publishing the first one. We are looking forward to having wonderful art and amazing stories from many talented authors and artists.
In the past, Red Shirt Press has published an award-winning Stargate Atlantis zine called, Military/Intelligence. However, recently our hearts (and brains) have been eaten by the joy that is J-squared, so that is why we'd like to publish a zine in this fandom. If you are equally caught up in the J-2 mania, then we hope you will consider submitting a story or artwork for the zine. So far, these are the potential submissions guideline we anticipate for the zine: stories between 10 - 60 pages guarantees you a free tribber's copy of the zine (if you'd like to write more than 60 pages, you are more than welcome!) two full length poems guarantee you a free tribber's copy of the zine one full length (8.5 x 11) piece of art (color or black & white) will get you a free tribber's copy of the zine a half a page of art will get you a discounted copy of the zine (10% off) all stories must be Jared/Jensen (no threesomes, foursomes, etc.). There can be mentions of past or current relationships that they are having (e.g. Jared/Sandy), but the main focus of the story MUST be Jared/Jensen. we welcome all genres: first time, established relationships, A/Us, crossovers, etc. However, due to legal reasons, we cannot publish underage Jared/Jensen stories, so both men must be over 18 years in all stories. stories must be submitted in Word .DOC format or Adobe .PDF format in the form of an e-mail attachment to: redshirtpress@gmail.com stories should be in NTR font 12 when submitted. stories will be edited by Red Shirt Press, but you (the author) will be a part of the editing process at every turn. The final edits will be submitted to you for approval before they are put in the zine. stories and art must not have been previously published in another format (zine, Internet, Livejournal, etc.) We are looking for new stories and art. stories and artwork should be turned in candygramme or myself by: April 20, 2008 to be considered for the zine.
If you think you could work with these guidelines and write a story for the zine, then please get in contact with us, as we'd love to have you in the zine. We have already had some wonderful authors agree to submit stories for the zine, but are looking for a few more talented people - hopefully that can be you!
Because of the delicate nature of this zine and RPF fiction in general, any further announcements about the zine will be done under friend's lock. If you are interested in getting information about this zine or contributing to it, I highly suggest you friend this journal. Thank you for your understanding.
I am looking forward to this project. Thank you for all your support.

| Well, it has been almost a year since Military/Intelligence was published and it is about that time to retire the zine.
After consulting with my agent, Kathleen Resch, we have decided to make the zine out-of-print on July 31, 2007. The last convention you will be able to buy it at is ShoreLeave in Baltimore, Maryland.
Kathy will be taking mail orders until July 31st, but after that the rights revert back to the artists and authors. At this point I have no idea what authors intend on putting their stories up on the 'Net. The same goes for the talented artists and the artwork we had in the zine.
So now would would be the time to get your copy of the paper edition of Military/Intelligence. The edited, formatted and with gorgeous artwork version of the zine. If, like me, you love the feel of a book in your hand then now is the time to make your order!
Information on how to order is HERE.
Or you can e-mail Kathy at: kathleener @ aol.com (remove spaces)
Thank you to everyone in Stargate Atlantis fandom who supported this zine. At present Red Shirt Press doesn't have any intention of doing an M/I issue #2, however we are considering doing another zine in another fandom. More details on that if we decide to go ahead with the project will be posted here on our LiveJournal. | comments: 5 comments or Leave a comment |

| If you would like to purchase a copy of the zine, please contact Kathy R. at kathleener at aol dot com.
Since I know people are busy in real life and it is sometimes hard to send out feedback via e-mail; I am using this post to set up a feedback forum for authors and artists in the zine. I know a lot of people find Livejournal much quicker than other forms of communication and I really want my authors and artists to get the feedback they deserve. So in case someone would like to leave feedback on the zine, particular stories or art in lieu of sending out a private e-mail, do so here. Most of the authors or artists have friended this journal.

| After spending way too much time this week in Office Depot and Kinko's, Red Shirt Press' McShep zine, Military/Intelligence is now printed, bound and ready to be sold.
I am giving a few copies (and the original) to Kathy Resch at ShoreLeave tomorrow night to sell at the convention. And the 9 remaining copies I have I am offering up here for sale for cost of printing and postage.
So, post a comment if you want to be one of the first nine people in SGA fandom to get a mail order of the zine. I am accepting PayPal only. Sorry, that is all I am set up for.
After my nine copies are gone, then ALL mail orders will be done through Kathy Resch. So, it is first come, first served. You will be able to contact Kathy {kathleener@aol.com} after ShoreLeave to firm up how to order from her.
Because Kathy hasn't been able to take the zine to her printer, I cannot guarantee the price I am selling it at for ShoreLeave and here online will be the price she will list it at. (California printing costs could be higher or lower, it depends.)
So, to the first lucky nine people, here are the particulars:
Military/Intelligence a Rodney McKay/John Sheppard slash zine 175 pages, Anthology 3 full-page color art pieces by Bluespirit and Crysothemis, 1 B&W full-page drawing by Lorraine Brevig and various other artwork by VampyrAlex and Tarlan
Price: $24.00 US plus postage

ETA: It looks like all nine copies are GONE. Thanks. Contact Kathy Resch for future mail orders. (see above) | comments: 35 comments or Leave a comment |
| I think I may have confused some people with my post about our SGA zine coming out for the ShoreLeave convention. The zine isn't ready to be sold yet. I was just making an announcement about when it would be published.
For those SGA fans who want to buy Military/Intelligence, you can do either two things:
1. If you are attending ShoreLeave, pick up a copy of the zine in the Dealer's Room from Kathy Resch, who is agenting the zine.
2. Wait until after July 9, 2006 when Kathy and Red Shirt Press have figured out the whole mail order/distribution angle and order the zine then. Until that date when Kathy and I can talk in person about how mail orders will be handled, I am not selling the zine. (The zine is in its final editing/format stages and is not even ready to be distributed).
Please know, I am very happy with the response and interest in the zine and I thank everyone for their comments and private e-mails. However, since I don't plan on distributing the zine myself (i.e. printing, mailing), until I can get definitive information about how mail orders can be done from Kathy, e-mailing me and trying to send me money via PayPal will not get you a copy of the zine any quicker. Sorry. *g*
Any and all updates on the mail orders and how Red Shirt Press will do that will be posted on this journal in July. Look for that post then.
Thank you. | comments: 2 comments or Leave a comment |
| The zine is full. Yeah!
Military/Intelligence will be published for ShoreLeave Convention (July 7, 2006). My distributor will be Kathleen R., who has published the beautiful T'hy'la zines for years. Please look for her in the Dealer's Room at ShoreLeave.
Mail orders will come later when Kathy and I have figured out the distribution angle.
So far I do not have a price for Military/Intelligence, as I have to see what Staples/Kinko's/Office Depot has to say about how much it will be. *g* However, at this point I am figuring under $28.
The final line-up for the zine is as follows, authors: lamardeuse, Alie, angylsmuse, Ori and Rina, stormheller, Sophia Moon, keikokin, Claire, tarlanx and z_rayne.
For artists, we have the amazingly talented crysothemis, who did the drop-dead gorgeous cover and title page. Plus I am happy to announce that Lorraine Brevig, whose beautiful art has graced many a Starsky and Hutch zine has graciously allowed me to use her John and Rodney illo as a centerpiece for the zine. Then the lovely, bluespirit_star has done an illo for lamardeuse's story and Vampyr Alex has also done two amazing color pieces. The art in the zine is simply stunning.
I think everyone will be pleased with the end result from this zine. | comments: 10 comments or Leave a comment |
| Well, the zine is 3/4ths full. I am still accepting submissions for "Military/Intelligence." So, I am moving back the submission deadline to late April.
I am still hoping to publish this zine for Media West, but if the zine doesn't fill up in the next month, I will push back the publication date to July for the ShoreLeave convention.
If you've ever secretly wanted your fiction in a zine, here's your chance to submit something now! *g* So far we have some absolutely wonderful and talented authors who have already contributed stories and they are: lamardeuse, angylsmuse, Ori and Rina, and keikokin. I have another 2 people who are in the process of having stories beta'd, then they will be officially submitted.
For artists, well, "Military/Intelligence," has hit the motherload in my opinion of the best artists in SGA fandom. crysothemis did the drop-dead gorgeous cover and the lovely, bluespirit_star has done two illos for the inside of the zine. Vampyr Alex has also done two amazing color pieces for the zine that are just waiting for stories to inspire them. (Think angst *g*)
Myself, I am kind of hoping for a cliche story, of which none have been submitted so far. My deepest, darkest secret is that I love 'Aliens-Made-Them-Do-It' stories. So if you have a cliche fic in your brain, send it my way.
